Self Reliant Groups in Ferguslie Park
We are The New Tannahill Centre, a community-run hub in Ferguslie Park in Paisley. The Centre is home to services including a doctor’s surgery and a Post Office, and we also work with organisations to deliver youth services; help older people live more independent lives; provide adult learning and run a Learning Kitchen.
We are delighted to have received Skills & Opportunities funding for our Self Reliant Groups project. Self reliant groups consist of five to ten people, who come together for support and friendship. They save together, using this fund to lend to each other when in need. They also learn a skill and start a business, which will help them to earn an income.
Specifically, the funding will allow a development worker to support at least 45 people, who are currently facing the most barriers to working, to set up six groups and develop their business ideas. The funding will also pay for training for group members.
